Use the unique main body. Leave out navigation, footer text, legal boilerplate, and repeated interface labels.
Content & publishing
Compare content length without turning word count into a goal.
Count plain body copy or enter a number from your editor, then compare it with a broad, versioned planning range. The result adds context—not a quality judgment, ranking promise, or reason to pad a page.

Reference details
Product description
- Basis
- Plainview Tools editorial planning preset
- Published
- August 23, 2026
- Scope
- The unique product description and decision-support copy, excluding repeated specifications and policies.
Assumptions
- Count the main body copy, not navigation, footer, legal boilerplate, or repeated interface labels.
- Choose the page type by its primary user task rather than its template name.
- Treat the band as a planning prompt; useful pages can be shorter or longer.
Intent, usefulness, accuracy, and completeness matter more than reaching a particular word count. Add or remove copy only when it helps the page fulfill its purpose.
How to use the reference
Let the page purpose lead.
Plainview Tools' ranges are deliberately broad editorial planning presets. They can help a team notice when a draft differs from its own expectations, but they are not industry averages and are not supplied or recommended by Google.
Check whether the page answers the task clearly, accurately, and completely before changing its length.
Version 1 uses a stable Unicode-aware token pattern intended for English and other space-delimited web copy. Common hyphenated and apostrophe-linked terms count as one word. Unspaced scripts, URLs, email addresses, decimals, and other editors may produce different totals. It is Plainview Tools' deterministic pattern, not a full Unicode Annex #29 word-boundary implementation.
Primary guidance
Why the range stays in its lane.
Reviewed August 23, 2026. These sources support the people-first, concise-writing, and text-segmentation disclosures—not the numeric ranges. The ranges are Plainview Tools editorial presets, version 1.0, and should be reviewed as the product evolves.
