Review a URL slug before it becomes a redirect problem.

Paste a proposed slug or complete URL to review separators, casing, length, dates, and optional keyword placement. The tool offers conservative normalization without pretending every editorial choice can be automated.

Step 1 · Add the page address

Paste a URL or slug

Add one phrase to check whether it appears in a clear, early position. Leave it blank to skip keyword guidance.

For a full URL or path, only the final path segment is analyzed. Query parameters and fragments are ignored.

This check runs locally. The URL is not opened, crawled, or submitted.

Step 2 · Review the guidance

Your slug review

  • Replace spaces or underscores

Replace every space or underscore with a hyphen (-). Separator-only result: “Write-Better--Page-Titles”.

  • Repeated, leading, or trailing hyphens

Use one hyphen between words, with no hyphen at the beginning or end of the slug.

  • Use consistent lowercase

Lowercase avoids case-sensitive surprises on some servers. Suggested casing: “write_better--page-titles”.

Suggested normalized slug

No numeric score is shown because slug quality is contextual. These checks cover readability and consistency—not ranking potential. Existing URLs shouldn't be changed casually; plan redirects and internal-link updates before a migration.

Use before publishing

A cleaner slug is useful; a needless URL change is not.

The checks separate structural cleanup from editorial judgment. Spaces, underscores, repeated hyphens, and capitalization can usually be normalized predictably. Numbers, dates, word choices, and keyword placement still need context.

Plainview Tools does not automatically remove common words when doing so could change meaning, break a phrase, or distort the optional primary keyword.

Existing URLs shouldn't be changed casually. A published URL may have links, search history, bookmarks, or analytics attached to it. Plan a permanent redirect before changing one.
